The red label—Giacosa's most prestigious designation, reserved for only his finest vintages and extended aging beyond standard Riserva requirements. From the Rocche del Falletto sub-vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, acquired by Giacosa in 1982. The 2007 captures the ripeness of that warm year while maintaining Giacosa's hallmark elegance and structural integrity. For many collectors, Giacosa's red-label Barolos rank among the finest wines made anywhere in the world—collectable, complex, and built for the cellar. Following Bruno's death in 2018, his legacy continues under daughter Bruna.

Antonio Galloni

95 points

"Good bright full red. Tight, high-pitched aromas of raspberry, spices, smoke and dried flowers. Initially much less sweet and open than the Faletto classico but dramatically gained flesh with air while retaining superb precision. Very deep wine but dominated by its spine today. Tannins are very suave. Offers superb depth of texture but today the classico is more floral and high-pitched." —Stephen Tanzer

Wine Spectator

97 points

"A complex and subtle wine, featuring floral, cherry, licorice and tar aromas and flavors, with a tobacco element in the background. This is firm, balanced by a rich, supple texture and a long, savory-filled finish. Keeps getting better with air. A textbook Giacosa, displaying a combination of intensity and grace."

More about Bruno Giacosa

Bruno Giacosa passed away in 2018, but his legacy defines classical Barolo and Barbaresco. He was convinced that Nebbiolo doesn't need French barriques or modern tweaks—only time in large oak and genuine understanding of terroir. His golden palate earned him recognition as an 'icon of Piedmont' and a 'guardian of the traditional style,' and his wines are objects of desire for good reason. These are classical expressions of Nebbiolo made by someone who understood the grape's infinite complexity.
