One of the original Napa cult Cabernets, made by Helen Turley from a small Pritchard Hill vineyard perched above Lake Hennessey. Don Bryant bought the site in 1985 planning to build a house, planted Cabernet Sauvignon instead, and within a few vintages the wines were among the hardest bottles to get in California; David Abreu farmed the vines. 1995 was a small crop — winter flooding, a rainy spring and a June hailstorm cut yields — but a hot summer and a long, mild Indian summer delivered deeply colored, concentrated fruit. At thirty years this is fully mature and should be drunk rather than held: stand it up, decant off the sediment, and don't let it sit too long in the glass. From a private cellar.
