From the heart of the Loire Valley, Charles Joguet’s 2020 Chinon "Les Petites Roches" offers a refined and balanced expression of Cabernet Franc. This wine combines ripe dark fruit with a touch of spice and earthy complexity, showcasing the unique terroir of Chinon.

The nose is filled with aromas of blackberries, plums, and dark cherries, alongside hints of violets, black pepper, and earthy undertones. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with smooth tannins that provide structure without being overwhelming. The bright acidity lifts the fruit and enhances its freshness, while subtle earthy and spicy notes add depth. The finish is clean and refreshing, with lingering flavors of dark fruit and a hint of spice.

This Chinon pairs beautifully with roasted meats, grilled vegetables, or a variety of cheeses. While it’s drinking wonderfully now, the wine’s balance suggests it will evolve and develop more complexity over time.

Joguet is another jewel in the Kermit Lynch portfolio, the domaine is situated just between the Loire and Vienne Rivers in the AOC of Chinon. Vinified separately, according to parcel since the 1950's, the estate is now run by winemaker Kevin Fontaine and wines are divided into 2 categories: those meant for early consumption, and those meant to age.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 88
"The 2020 Les Petites Roches is a wine that hails from several gravelly plots south of the river Vienne, giving a nice sense of plump ripeness on the mid palate with red strawberry fruit flavors. Clean, balanced and just enough freshness to keep this going. This is not a tannic style but a low level of lightly gravelly tannins coat the palate. It's open and ready to drink but will keep for five to eight years." -Rebecca Gibb MW

Robert Parker

"Crafted from vines planted on clay, calcareous soils, the 2020 Chinon Les Petites Roches possesses a delicate, fresh bouquet of violet, dark berries and spices. Medium-bodied, layered and elegant, with a juicy core of fruit, it’s long and lively. More structured than Silènes, it also has bright acids and a longer mid-palate, concluding with a mouthwatering, ethereal finish. A great effort." -Yohan Castaing
