Charles Joguet changed Chinon forever by treating Cabernet Franc the way Burgundians treat Pinot, bottling each terroir on its own. Varennes du Grand Clos is a prized gravel-and-clay parcel near the river that gives a generous yet structured wine, one of the domaine's most complete. Dark and intense in youth, it asks for cellar time. The 2010 was a firm, age-worthy vintage; at well over a decade on it is now mature, layered, and drinking beautifully.

Joguet is another jewel in the Kermit Lynch portfolio, the domaine is situated just between the Loire and Vienne Rivers in the AOC of Chinon. Vinified separately, according to parcel since the 1950's, the estate is now run by winemaker Kevin Fontaine and wines are divided into 2 categories: those meant for early consumption, and those meant to age.
