A small Saint-Émilion estate from one of Bordeaux's last true 'garagiste' moments. Croix de Labrie sits on the Right Bank with under six hectares of vines, Merlot-led with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The 2006 was made under the Puzio-Lesage family, when the estate was effectively the poster child for the garage-wine movement — production small enough to age in a living room, focus relentless. 2006 was a more classical, structured Bordeaux vintage following the celebrated 2005, with cooler nights preserving acidity and giving the wines a more savory edge. Nineteen years on, the wine has shed its first plump fruit and entered a graceful mature window where the secondary aromas of cedar, tobacco, and earth come forward.

Antonio Galloni

89 points

"Bright ruby-red. Blackberry, cassis, licorice and minerals on the nose, plus a hint of currant leaf. Suave, dense and rather fine-grained, with notes of black fruits, minerals, violet, dark chocolate and pepper. Finishes with an edge of acidity, but the tannins are dusty and broad and the wine seems unforced. The owner of this property added a parcel of old-vines merlot for the 2006 vintage." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

94 points

"Atypically opulent, flamboyant, and extravagantly rich for a 2006, this tiny garagiste operation has fashioned a gorgeously sexy 2006 boasting sweet creme de cassis notes intermixed with kirsch, coffee, and subtle smoked herb and toast characteristics in the background. Full-bodied, round, and delicious, it is impossible to resist, so enjoy it over the next 8-10 years. Great value." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roasted leg of lamb, beef tenderloin with mushroom sauce, duck confit, hard aged cheeses, or wild mushroom dishes. Mature Bordeaux loves the savory side of the kitchen.

Tasting Profile

Cedar, tobacco leaf, dried plum, and a whisper of truffle layer over mature blackcurrant and black cherry. Medium-bodied, with softened tannin, lifted acidity, and a long, earth-tinged finish.
