As the second wine of Château Ducru-Beaucaillou, La Croix de Beaucaillou is anything but an afterthought. It’s sourced from dedicated parcels and made with the same precision as the grand vin. In a cool, structured vintage like 2014, it shines with elegance and clarity—Saint-Julien through and through.

Blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry form the core, with layers of pencil shavings, dried tobacco, and a hint of violets. The tannins are firm yet refined, the acidity fresh, and the finish long and savory. This is classic Médoc—restrained, balanced, and built to evolve. Decant now to stretch its legs, or hold another 5–10 years. A smart pick for Left Bank lovers who appreciate nuance over flash.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

"The 2014 Croix de Beaucaillou is a very dark, powerful, concentrated second wine in an especially juicy style. Black cherry, plum, smoke, licorice and dark spice build into the huge, voluptuous finish." -Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"The 2014 La Croix de Beaucaillou has enjoyed a purple patch in recent vintages. The nose on the 2014 appeared to have closed down after bottling, but the quality is still tangible, almost sedate, but exquisitely defined tertiary red berry fruit gradually opens in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, crisp and energetic, very focused with superb mineralité. There is just a mote of hardness and rigidity on the finish, but that will be abraded by bottle age (and this is one Deuxième Vin that benefits from bottle maturity)." -Neal Martin

"This is an exceptional vintage for La Croix. It has voluptuous fruits that emerge from the ripe dense tannins. They are balanced by intense acidity and a crisp edge. The wine, with its still stylish character, is one to age for a long time. Drink this very fine wine from 2025."
