What is this wine?
Château Fonbadet is a family-run estate in the heart of Pauillac, Bordeaux, located near some of the Médoc’s most famous classified growths (Mouton Rothschild, Latour, and Lynch-Bages). The estate produces Cabernet Sauvignon–dominant blends typical of Pauillac, with Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot playing supporting roles. The 2015 vintage was a strong year across Bordeaux, producing ripe, generous, and balanced wines.

Why get this wine?
For lovers of Pauillac, Fonbadet offers classic Left Bank character at a fraction of the price of its prestigious neighbors. The 2015 is entering a beautiful drinking window now: complex, structured, and polished, but with the hallmark cassis, graphite, and cedar notes that define the appellation. It’s a chance to drink true Pauillac pedigree without the classified growth price tag.

What does this wine taste like?
Full-bodied and elegant, with blackcurrant, blackberry, and plum, layered over cedar, tobacco, graphite, and earthy spice. Firm but ripe tannins, fresh acidity, and a long, savory finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Perfect now through the early 2030s. Decant for 1–2 hours before serving with grilled lamb, roast beef, or hearty mushroom dishes.

Antonio Galloni

"A totally sexy, voluptuous wine, the 2015 Fonbadet is terrific. A rush of dark cherry jam, wild flowers, mint, espresso and licorice gives the 2015 its decidedly exotic, voluptuous personality. Silky tannins and plush fruit add to the wine's sumptuousness. There is a presence to the 2015 that is hard to describe but that has been present each of the three times I have tasted it so far. Simply put, Fonbadet is gorgeous in 2015."

Robert Parker

88 points

"The 2015 Fonbadet is composed of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon and 50% Merlot, aged in 50% new and 50% one-year-old barrels. Deep garnet-purple in color, it has a crème de cassis, baked plums and lavender-scented nose with nuances of bouquet garni and mossy bark plus a touch of hoisin. Medium-bodied, firm and chewy, it's a little lean and finishes a little abrupt." —Lisa Perrotti-Brown

Wine Enthusiast

93 points

"This wine comes from a 50-acre crus bourgeois estate in the middle of some of the greatest crus classés estates. The terroir is impressive and produces a rich, structured wine with good concentration, ripe tannins and a sumptuous bed of black fruits. The wine is likely to age well; drink from 2025." —Roger Voss
