A Second Growth Saint-Julien of significant stature, Château Gruaud-Larose is celebrated for wines of power, depth, and aging potential. The 2006 vintage displays the classic profile of great Bordeaux: plum and raspberry aromas with floral hints, a full-bodied structure with super well-integrated tannins, and pretty fruit on the mid-palate. The palate develops as a tapestry of ripe berries, underbrush, and pencil shaving, with all elements in balance and finesse. At nearly two decades, this wine is fully resolved and drinking majestically, yet will continue evolving through the 2030s.

Antonio Galloni

87 points

"The 2006 Gruaud Larose has a very conservative nose with smoke, tobacco and light attic-like scents. It just needs more fruit and more presence. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, clove and sage infusing the black fruit. This is a bit rough around the edges, though I do not find the metallic tincture that marked the previous bottle. It’s just not a particularly memorable Gruaud Larose. Drink now. Tasted at the Gruaud Larose vertical at the château in February 2023." —Neal Martin

Wine Spectator

90 points

"Shows plum and raspberry aromas, with hints of flowers. Full-bodied, with super well-integrated tannins and pretty fruit on the middle palate. All there in balance and finesse."

Wine Enthusiast

91 points

"Initially dominated by tannins, this wine is now evolving to show a softer, easier side. With sweet fruit and a delicious, refreshing juicy black currant acidity, the tannins are now the base of an approachable wine, offering considerable pleasure."
