What is this wine?
Château Haut-Bergey’s Pessac-Léognan Rouge 2019 is a balanced, aromatic Left Bank Bordeaux crafted from Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, with small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The estate, located just outside the town of Léognan, has been farmed biodynamically since the mid-2010s under the direction of Hélène Garcin and Patrice Lévêque. The 2019 vintage was aged in French oak (around 40% new), yielding a polished yet terroir-driven wine that reflects Pessac-Léognan’s hallmark elegance and smoky minerality.

Why get this wine?
Haut-Bergey has quietly become one of the best values in Pessac-Léognan, combining organic farming, minimal-intervention winemaking, and true Graves character. The outstanding 2019 vintage produced wines of richness and balance, and this bottling delivers the depth and finesse of top Bordeaux without the grand cru price. It’s a modern classic—ripe, fresh, and refined.

What does this wine taste like?
Blackcurrant, plum, and blackberry are layered with graphite, tobacco, and a hint of smoky spice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, structured but supple, with silky tannins and a long, mineral-accented finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Decant 45 minutes before serving. Drink now through 2035 while its fruit and structure remain in harmony. Excellent with roast duck, lamb, or grilled vegetables.

Robert Parker

90 points

"The 2019 Haut Bergey offers up a rich bouquet of earthy blackberry fruit, burning embers and red berry compote. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and generous, with powdery tannins and succulent acids, it's round and giving, with a slight fragility to its flavors that makes me think it will be at its best in the near term." —Robert Parker

Wine Enthusiast

94 points

"Structured, full of promise and with layers of black fruits and tannins, this ripe wine is set for aging. The texture, with its dry core, is dense and powerful."
