You'll spot Lafon-Rochet from the road: it's the one painted bright golden yellow, a color the estate now carries onto its label. Beyond the eye-catching chateau, this fourth-growth Saint-Estephe sits on gravel-over-clay terroir bordering Lafite and turns out increasingly polished, structured wines. The 2016 is Cabernet-led (about 67%) from a classic Left Bank vintage where a dry summer and small, thick-skinned grapes gave ripe tannins and fresh acidity. Northern Medoc was a standout that year for late-ripening Cabernet. Decant it now, or cellar comfortably into the 2030s.
