Known for his meticulous, terroir-driven Pinot Noirs, Ross Cobb brings the same thoughtful, restrained approach to Chardonnay. H. Klopp Vineyard, perched just a few miles from the Pacific, offers fog-cooled fruit, sandstone soils, and a natural tension that translates beautifully into the glass.

The 2021 vintage is all about purity. Fermented with native yeasts and aged in mostly neutral French oak, it opens slowly—lemon zest, wet stone, and white flowers leading into a finely textured palate with bright acidity and just a touch of creamy lees richness. It’s not flashy or overbuilt. Instead, it walks the line between coastal California charm and cool-climate restraint, offering depth without weight.

Perfect with simple seafood, roast chicken, or on its own for those who love Chardonnay that speaks softly but with purpose. For fans of Littorai, Ceritas, or Chablis with a West Coast soul, Cobb’s H. Klopp 2021 is a stunning bottle that is just starting to show some interesting development.

Robert Parker

97 points

"The 2021 Chardonnay H. Klopp Vineyard, from vines planted in classic Goldridge soils, is bursting with alluring, layered aromas: quince paste, honey and white peach are complemented by accents of roasted almonds and graham cracker, and the palate matches that intensity with its highly concentrated, honeyed flavors. All that flavor is supported by a spine of vibrant acidity, and a touch of textural grip drives a very long finish. This is so delicious!" —Robert Parker

"H Klopp is nestled in the foggy lower Sebastopol Hills, on the Goldridge series loam soils, and is dedicated to Chardonnay for the Cobb portfolio. Bright floral aromas, petrichor and minerality are layered with notes of grilled lemon peel and seaspray. The palate gives a lively, mineral freshness and continues to leap forward with oyster-shell salinity and loads of lemon cream."

More about Cobb Wines

Stephen and Ross Cobb are Pinot Noir obsessives working small, single-vineyard parcels on the far Sonoma Coast where their parents planted the first vines in Coastlands Vineyard back in 1989. Founded in 2001, they've stayed focused—Pinot Noir from coastal benchland, plus small amounts of Chardonnay and Riesling. No oak overload, no show. These are wines about place: the cold, the fog, the mineral dirt. They prove the West Sonoma Coast argument was right all along.
