Ross Cobb knows the far Sonoma Coast as well as anyone alive — he founded Cobb Wines with his parents David and Diane in 2001 and later spent six vintages (2009-2015) as the winemaker at neighboring Hirsch. The Sonoma Coast bottling is his appellation-level Pinot, a blend across cool, coastal-extreme sites that opens the door to the rest of the lineup. Total Cobb Wines production hovers around 1,000 cases across all bottlings. The 2023 vintage follows house form: nuance over saturation, tension over weight, and a wonderfully cool-climate profile built on tart red fruit, dried herbs, and a savory, earthy lift. Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The 2023 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a very pretty, nuanced wine. Crushed flowers, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, incense, licorice and dried herbs all grace this ethereal, understated Pinot. The Sonoma Coast Pinot is quite delicate and understated. There's lovely freshness and energy here, along with a bit of youthful austerity that needs time to soften." —Antonio Galloni

More about Cobb Wines

Stephen and Ross Cobb are Pinot Noir obsessives working small, single-vineyard parcels on the far Sonoma Coast where their parents planted the first vines in Coastlands Vineyard back in 1989. Founded in 2001, they've stayed focused—Pinot Noir from coastal benchland, plus small amounts of Chardonnay and Riesling. No oak overload, no show. These are wines about place: the cold, the fog, the mineral dirt. They prove the West Sonoma Coast argument was right all along.

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Wild salmon, duck breast, mushroom tart, roast chicken with herbs and root vegetables, charcuterie boards, or a beet-and-goat-cheese salad. Cool-climate Pinot rewards anything earthy, herbal, or savory at the table.

Tasting Profile

Tart red cherry and pomegranate, dried thyme, forest floor, and a cool, saline lift. Lean and precise rather than rich — a Pinot built on tension and site rather than fruit weight.
