Cobb Wines was founded in 2001 by Ross Cobb and his parents David and Diane on a ridgeline west of Occidental, less than four miles from the Pacific. The family purchased the land in 1988 and planted Coastlands Vineyard the following year—the estate now encompasses 40 acres with 14 acres of Pinot Noir. Ross became viticulturist and enologist for Williams Selyem in 1999 before starting his own label. The estate is farmed sustainably with organic and regenerative practices. This Sonoma Coast bottling showcases the cool, maritime-influenced character of the region. Ross is recognized as a noted Pinot Noir specialist, crafting wines of precision and restraint. Serve with duck, mushroom dishes, or roasted salmon.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The 2022 Pinot Noir (Sonoma Coast) is a pretty, open-knit appellation-level Pinot. Bright fruit, silky tannins and floral aromatics make for an attractive, easygoing red that is all charm. Hints of orange peel and spice linger. This is a juicier style than normal." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

92 points

"The 2022 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast comes from four vineyards: Abigail’s, Emmaline Ann, Rice-Spivak and Mes Filles. Fermented with 50% whole clusters, it opens with expressive blackberry fruit accented by touches of conifer, forest floor and crème brûlée. The medium-bodied palate offers plush waves of sweet berry fruit. It’s structured by powdery tannins and refreshing acidity and has a long, detailed finish. It drinks beautifully straight from the bottle. 595 cases were made." —Erin Brooks

Decanter

94 points

"A blend of several of Ross' single vineyards and a clonal mix of Calera, Swann, Martini and Pommard. It's planted at 100-300m—ethereal aromas of violets, saline minerality and mint. The palate offers willowy, lithe, gorgeous red berries and richer candied blue fruits. The unmistakable elegance of earthen minerals, sea air salinity and pine bough carry this to its finish as if blown on the breezes of the Pacific."

Wine Spectator

88 points

"Delivers the vintage's friendly gush of raspberry and blood orange paste flavors up front, with a soft structure and flashes of hibiscus and rose petal on the gentle finish. Drink now through 2027. 595 cases made."

More about Cobb Wines

Stephen and Ross Cobb are Pinot Noir obsessives working small, single-vineyard parcels on the far Sonoma Coast where their parents planted the first vines in Coastlands Vineyard back in 1989. Founded in 2001, they've stayed focused—Pinot Noir from coastal benchland, plus small amounts of Chardonnay and Riesling. No oak overload, no show. These are wines about place: the cold, the fog, the mineral dirt. They prove the West Sonoma Coast argument was right all along.
