A half bottle of serious Sancerre is one of the more useful things you can keep in the fridge - right for two people over dinner, or for one glass poured properly and no leftovers to worry about. Comte Lafond is the Sancerre estate of the de Ladoucette family, run by Baron Patrick de Ladoucette since 1972, with vines averaging around thirty years old across the best-known villages of the appellation: Bue, Chavignol, Verdigny and Chaudoux, on a mix of clay-limestone and flinty silex soils. The winemaking is deliberately transparent - whole-cluster pressing, a long, cool fermentation in stainless steel, three to six months on the lees with stirring, and never a moment in wood - so what you taste is Sauvignon Blanc and the ground it grew on. The name honors the Comte Lafond who bought the family estate in 1787 from an illegitimate daughter of Louis XV. Serve it well chilled.

Tasting Profile
