Vosne-Romanée is one of the most coveted village names in Burgundy, so a bottle from a domaine most drinkers haven't heard of yet is worth a second look. Coquard-Loison-Fleurot is based in Flagey-Échezeaux and rarely exported its wines until recently. Now, under Claire Fleurot's direction, the domaine is starting to get real attention. The house makes only Pinot Noir and farms traditionally. This is their village-level Vosne-Romanée, not the separate Premier Cru, and it goes for elegance and a light touch rather than power. It's a chance to drink Vosne from a producer before the rest of the world catches on.

Robert Parker

91 points

"The 2016 Vosne-Romanée Village comes from three vineyards covering 1.5 hectares and sees one-third new oak. It has a fragrant bouquet with ebullient strawberry and raspberry fruit entwined with cold stone aromas and discrete sous-bois aromas. The palate has a little more substance than its fellow village crus even if it does not quite deliver the same finesse as the Morey-Saint-Denis or the Gevrey-Chambertin. Still, I appreciate the deft spicy note that sustains the finish." —Neal Martin

Jancis Robinson

16.5 points

"Mid crimson with a purple cast. Scented with red cherry, more open than the Gevrey. Then darker fruited than I expected on the palate. Firm, dry texture of super-fine tannins, more like layers of paper than grainy. Upright and definite and already in harmony even in youth." —Julia Harding MW

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Roast chicken with thyme and pan juices; seared duck breast with cherries; wild mushroom risotto or mushroom tart; coq au vin; a simple plate of jambon persillé.

Tasting Profile

Expect the classic village Vosne-Romanée profile: red and black cherry, raspberry and violet, with a hint of the exotic spice the village is known for. In keeping with the domaine's lighter touch, it typically shows medium body, silky, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity, finishing dry, elegant and gently savoury.
