The Evangelho Vineyard is California history in a glass: own-rooted Carignan planted in the 1890s, growing in over thirty feet of pure sand in Contra Costa County, right where the San Joaquin Delta sends coastal winds rushing over the warm vines. That sand is the secret - it gives the wine suave, fine-grained tannins you can't fake. Cody and Emily Rasmussen of Desire Lines treat these ancient vines like cru Beaujolais, with a touch of carbonic and a splash of Mourvedre for flesh. This 2019 comes from a warm, generous vintage, leaning into riper red fruit while keeping the site's signature lift.
