Shake Ridge Ranch is the Sierra Foothills' most coveted vineyard, farmed organically by the legendary Ann Kraemer, who tailors her work to each winemaker she supplies - and Desire Lines' Cody Rasmussen (who cut his teeth alongside Morgan Twain-Peterson at Bedrock) makes one of its finest Syrahs. The site sits in Amador County just uphill of the Melones Fault, in the heart of the old Mother Lode. This 2018 is deep and savory, full of blue fruit, wild game and cracked black pepper, but built with the freshness and restraint that defines the house. A serious cool-leaning California Syrah with years ahead of it.
