This is a Dom Pérignon vintage that has both things you want: perfectly ripe grapes and concentrated fruit, with a strong mineral streak and bracing acidity running through it all, the kind of structure that lets a Champagne age for decades. Dom Pérignon is Moët & Chandon's prestige cuvée, and a dedicated team makes each vintage on its own. The house's cellar masters have long held that great Champagne goes through phases of development, just like the best still wines, and a vintage with this much acidity and concentration is a good one to test that idea on. Yes, it's a famous name, but this is one where what's in the glass earns the label. Open one now for its energy, or put a bottle away and see how it changes over the years.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2008 Dom Pérignon remains one of the all-time greats here. No longer a young Champagne, the 2008 has begun moving into its first plateau of maturity. Baked apple tart, citrus confit, marzipan and lightly honeyed overtones are front and center. A touch of reduction—always present in 2008—adds freshness and energy." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"Unquestionably the finest Dom Pérignon of the decade, the 2008 Dom Pérignon is drinking brilliantly today, wafting from the glass with notes of citrus oil, ripe orchard fruit, peach, buttered toast, pastry cream, iodine and smoky reduction. Full-bodied, rich and fleshy, it's vinous and layered, with a deep core of sweet fruit, racy acids and a long, saline finish. The 2008 is aging very gracefully." —William Kelley

"Really complex nose. Tight and layered. Very much a 2008 with very high acidity but much more undertow and embroidery than the Grande Dame 2008. Still very youthful. I’d be tempted to decant this, almost!"

Decanter

"Michelle Cherutti-Kowal MW: Brioche, almonds and red apples on the nose and palate. Great balance with dosage and acidity. Excellent combination of fruit and bottle age. Stefan Neumann MS: Top-notch salty, mineral, iodine-like aromas. Showing a wonderful sourdough-like character with delicate roasted nuts. Depth and drive, elegance and power. Matt Walls: Deep, intense, full-bodied style of Champagne, voluminous, generous, very powerful and thunderous. Very long – this is a great wine. So harmonious."

Wine Spectator

96 points

"There’s power to this graceful Champagne, with the vivid acidity swathed in a fine, creamy mousse and flavors of toasted brioche, kumquat, pastry cream, candied ginger and poached plum that dance across the palate. An underpinning of smoky mineral gains momentum on the lasting finish."

More about Dom Perignon

The prestige cuvée of Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon represents champagne as aspirational object and serious wine. Each vintage is crafted separately by a dedicated team, meaning every release asks you to trust their vintage-specific choices rather than expect consistency. Expensive, yes, but these bottles carry the weight of history and unbending quality standards.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Oysters on the half shell, caviar with blini and crème fraîche, butter-poached langoustine or lobster, sea urchin or toro sushi, roast chicken with morels, aged Comté.

Tasting Profile

Expect the Dom Pérignon house style: a Chardonnay–Pinot Noir blend showing citrus, white peach and white flowers layered with toasted brioche and a smoky, chalky minerality. The mousse is typically fine and creamy, with taut acidity giving real tension, and the finish is long, dry and savoury. Built to age, it picks up richer toasty, nutty notes with time.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
