A dry Jurançon with the kind of textural lift that makes you wonder why this appellation isn't more famous. Pascal Labasse has run Domaine Bellegarde since 1985, working twelve hectares outside the village of Monein in the Pyrenean foothills west of Pau; his son Maxime joined the estate in 2019. The Pierre Blanche is a single-vineyard dry cuvée, roughly 60% Petit Manseng and 40% Gros Manseng, fermented and aged in demi-muids — the small oak vessels that lend texture without overt oak flavor. The result is a Jurançon Sec with weight and savor, all citrus pith and white peach laced through with a spicy, herbal lift that the Petit Manseng provides. A serious white from one of southwest France's most distinctive corners — equal parts mountain freshness and southern warmth.
