Clos de la Chapelle has become one of the most talked-about young domaines in the Cote de Beaune, revived in 2010 by Burgundy lover Mark O'Connell with deeply experienced local partners. This is their En Carelle, a Volnay Premier Cru (Pinot Noir) from a square-shaped parcel sitting just below the 16th-century chapel that gives the domaine its name, on well-drained, limestone-rich soil with southeast exposure. Volnay has no Grand Cru, but its Premiers Crus are prized for finesse and fragrance, and En Carelle delivers exactly that pretty, perfumed style. The 2019 is a warm, generous vintage, so this drinks well now with a decant but has the structure to reward a few years in the cellar.
