Granite Vin de France is a masterclass in restraint and terroir expression. Fred Niger inherited Guy Bossard's "no make-up" philosophy—these wines speak for themselves without manipulation. Sourced from a southwest-facing 3-hectare granite parcel with 45–55 year old Melon de Bourgogne vines, it captures the mineral spine of 400-million-year-old stone. The winemaking is a study in minimalism: indigenous yeast, gravity-only movement, aged on lees for texture, minimal sulfur. The result is a wine of crystalline clarity with a distinctive salinity and subtle complexity that rewards curiosity.

More about Domaine de l'Ecu

Certified organic since 1972 and biodynamic since 1998, Domaine de l'Ecu is credited by many for elevating how Muscadet is thought of today. Fred Niger runs the estate (with consulting help from founder Guy Bossard) and bottles Melon de Bourgogne by soil type: Granite, Orthogneiss, and Classic. Aged sur-lie for 15-18 months, these are the most complex Muscadets made. Distinctive and terroir-driven.

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
