"A distinctly cool nose of purple fruit, earth and a hint of the sauvage leads to powerful, intense yet not really rustic medium weight flavors where the shaping tannins are unusually fine grained, all wrapped in a robust and tautly muscular finish. While this has not completely shed its typical Nuits character, the 2012 version is certainly more polished than usual. In sum, this is really quite good and worth your attention."

"Healthy medium red. Ripe, spicy aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, tobacco and minerals. Finer and more complex than the Clos de l'Arlot but also shows outstanding breadth and depth of texture, not to mention definition of flavor. Finishes with serious building tannins and a rocky minerality that contributes thrust. In contrast to the Clos de l'Arlot, this potentially outstanding wine really calls for patience." —Stephen Tanzer

"Tasted blind at Flint Wines’ 2007/2012 Nuits Saint-Georges tasting in London. The 2012 Nuits Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos des Forêts Saint Georges from Domaine de l'Arlot was quite reduced on the nose. There's good fruit here, but there is also a fug of SO2. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth, rounded tannin. I admire its brightness, as if it is making amends for the aromatics, the acidity and the copious red cherry and strawberry fruit flowing seamlessly towards the finish. It just needs a few years for the aromatics to sort themselves out, but after an odd showing a couple of years ago, it would seem that this is finally getting its act together. Tasted November 2016." —Neal Martin

More about Domaine de l'Arlot

For several decades now the Domaine de L'Arlot has been following its own path to creating wines that reflect both the subtleties of diverse terroirs and a distinct "house style" that is unique in Burgundy. The Domaine is located in Premeaux, on the southern most edge of the Cotes-de-Nuits where Nuits-St-Georges tends to resemble Chambolle in elegance and perfume.

In 2015 the very talented Geraldine Godot was given full control of the domaine. She is committed to continuing the traditions of the house including biodynamic farming and a high percentage of whole clusters during fermentation. However she is making small changes, using less extraction and less new oak to achieve even more balance and grace.

The heart of the Domaine's holdings are two 1er Cru monopoles in Nuits-Saints-Georges: Clos de L'Arlot and Clos des Forets. These vineyards produce some of the most elegant wines in Nuits and are perfect examples of the finesse and purity of terroir that L'Arlot achieves.

They also have small parcels of vines in two of the top vineyards in Vosne-Romanée: Romanée-Saint-Vivant and Suchots. These blue chip wines are complimented by a range of excellent values from the Haut-Cotes and other sites surrounding Nuits.
