"Saint Siffrein's 2021 Chateauneuf du Pape is rather light in hue, but it boasts attractive black cherry compote aromas, plus hints of cedar and vanilla. Mainly matured in foudres, this blend of 70% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Cinsault is full-bodied, expansive and supple, then slightly woody and astringent on the finish. Five generations of the Chastan family have worked the limestone slopes of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, now for 40 years organic. Abel Chastan founded this in 1880; today the family makes 14 hectares of reds and one of whites from vines that talk terroir louder than most. This is Châteauneuf with restraint and age-ability.
