Burghound

90 points

"50% of the blend is from Clos de la Baronne and the rest is from vines in En la Barre, Crotots, and Luraule plus the usual declassified juice from young vines Genevrières and Charmes. There is enough reduction present to render the nose difficult to assess. Otherwise, there is good punch and precision to the acceptably dense flavors that display good if not special depth and persistence on the slightly firmer finale."

"The 2022 Meursault Village comes from five parcels plus some de-selected fruit from Les Perrières and Les Charmes. It has a light bouquet at first, opening in the glass with hints of dried honey and quince mixed with grilled almonds. The medium-bodied palate shows commendable purity and touches of tropical fruit mixed with white pepper. Nicely focused with quite a persistent finish. Very classy." —Neal Martin

"The 2022 Meursault from Comtes Lafon is rich with classic ripe apple, butter, and hazelnut aromas. The texture is rich and creamy, but the wine avoids heaviness through a fine balance of acidity and extract. Half of the grapes are from the Clos de la Baronne monopole in the heart of the village; the other half is a combination of sites, including En Luraule and En La Barre, with grapes declassified from the younger vines of the premier crus. The grapes are slowly pressed as whole clusters and fermented in cask before ageing over two winters."

More about Domaine des Comtes Lafon

A Meursault institution that makes white Burgundy the way it should taste: rich but not heavy, layered but not overwrought. These Chardonnays from the Côte de Beaune sit at the intersection of power and elegance, especially the prized Clos de la Baronne, where the limestone terroir speaks clearly. The house has built its reputation on consistency and refinement—wines that age gracefully and reward patience. If you want to understand what limestone and lees aging can do in the hands of masters, this is where to start.
