A walled village clos that Lafon farms on its own, roughly two and a half hectares of forty-year-old vines that came to the domaine in 2011 when the old Domaine René Manuel estate was broken up, and that were first bottled separately with the 2012 vintage. Village Meursault is where a domaine's farming shows most plainly, and the Baronne answers with presence and mineral drive rather than easy richness. The estate has been fully biodynamic since 1998, early for Burgundy, and is now in the hands of Léa and Pierre Lafon, the fifth generation, after Dominique stepped back at the end of 2021. 2023 was a vintage of balance on the Côte de Beaune, with picking starting at the end of August and whites where acidity, fruit and alcohol landed in harmony. Approachable in a few years, with the structure to run a decade.

"As usual, the 2023 Meursault Clos de la Baronne is the softest, roundest wine in the cellar, offering up notes of honeyed pears and flowers followed by a broad, medium to full-bodied palate." —William Kelley

More about Domaine des Comtes Lafon

A Meursault institution that makes white Burgundy the way it should taste: rich but not heavy, layered but not overwrought. These Chardonnays from the Côte de Beaune sit at the intersection of power and elegance, especially the prized Clos de la Baronne, where the limestone terroir speaks clearly. The house has built its reputation on consistency and refinement—wines that age gracefully and reward patience. If you want to understand what limestone and lees aging can do in the hands of masters, this is where to start.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Turbot or halibut in beurre blanc, crab, roast chicken, or a young Comté.

Tasting Profile

Dry and taut, with lemon, white peach and crushed stone. Medium-bodied, with bright acidity and a mineral, almost salty finish. The oak is subtle; this is about drive rather than richness.
