A biodynamic Hautes-Côtes Pinot from a Maranges true believer. Isabelle and Jean-Yves Vantey founded Domaine des Rouges-Queues ("red tails," for the local birds) in Sampigny-lès-Maranges in 1998, and have farmed biodynamically since 2008 - horse-plowed, hand-harvested, fermented with native yeasts and dosed with the lightest touch of sulfur. Their 5.6 hectares now span ten appellations across the southern Côte de Beaune, including this slice of the Hautes-Côtes, where higher altitude buys freshness even in a warm vintage like 2022. The result is the Vantey signature: transparent Pinot Noir with red-fruited lift, energy, and a clear sense of where it came from. Smart Burgundy at a fair address.

Perfect Pairings

Pour with roast chicken and herbs, mushroom tartines, lentils braised with smoked sausage, duck rillettes, charcuterie boards, or a wedge of ripe Epoisses. Lightly chilled does it absolutely no harm at all.

Tasting Profile

Bright translucent ruby. Red cherry, fresh cranberry, ripe raspberry, rose petal, dried thyme, damp forest floor, and a whiff of crushed stone. Light-to-medium-bodied with juicy acidity, fine-grained tannins, and a vibrant, lifted finish.
