This is a Grand Cru Clos-Vougeot from Domaine d'Eugénie's earliest years, now with well over a decade of age on it. That makes it a chance to see how the first work of this young Vosne-Romanée estate is holding up. The domaine was born in July 2006, when the Pinault family bought the storied René Engel estate, and it farmed organically and biodynamically from the start. The 2008 was also made before the team moved its vat room and cellar to the centre of Vosne-Romanée in 2009. The house's Clos-Vougeot vines sit on the upper hillside, just steps from the château, which is a fine address inside one of Burgundy's most famously divided vineyards. The domaine says this wine carries the Cistercian spirit of the clos: earthy, taut and energetic. Their own serving advice is 17–18°C, so cool cellar temperature rather than room-warm, and it deserves a slow evening in the glass.
