One domaine, one wine: every grape the Faraud family grows goes into a single red Gigondas. No "top cuvée" gets the best parcels first, so this bottle is the whole estate. The vines sit high in the shadow of the Dentelles de Montmirail, at 300 to 400 metres on clay-limestone facing southeast. That's high ground for an appellation better known for sun and power. The 2022 is 78% Grenache, with Syrah, Cinsault and a dash of Mourvèdre. It was fermented entirely as whole clusters with native yeast, aged in large older barrels and bottled unfined and unfiltered. The domaine is now run by sisters Delphine, Cendrine and Roseline Faraud, the fifth generation, while their father Michel keeps a watchful eye. Their importer goes as far as saying perhaps nobody in the region captures garrigue, the wild herbs of the southern French hillsides, more clearly. This is Gigondas with the hills still showing, not polished away, and it's for anyone who likes their Southern Rhône honest and a little untamed.

Tasting Profile

Expect a Grenache-led Gigondas in the fresher, more savoury style: ripe red cherry and raspberry, dried herbs and garrigue, with a peppery Syrah edge and the lift that whole-cluster fermentation brings. It's typically medium- to full-bodied, with firm tannins rounded by large older barrels, bright acidity from the high vineyards and a long, dry, herbal finish.
