This is the smallest monopole in all of Burgundy — a single walled clos of barely half a hectare, with a little stone country house sitting right in the middle of the vines. Faiveley farms it exclusively, tucked southwest of Gevrey village beside Les Ruchottes, on limestone terraces that run from richer, powerful fruit up top to lighter, floral, mineral notes below. The old vines here date back to 1971. A Premier Cru of real character and small production, it rewards the curious more than the label-chasers. At nearly a decade old, the 2016 has slipped into its drinking sweet spot.

"Here too there is enough wood present to warrant noting it along with plenty of earth and more floral elements adding breadth to the red and dark currant scents. There is excellent size and weight to the medium-weight flavors that are blessed with fine phenolic ripeness of the supporting tannins on the youthfully austere, energetic and moderately firm finish."

"Good dark red. Captivating perfume of raspberry, spices, crushed stone and red licorice. Intensely flavored and penetrating, boasting terrific energy and lift to its flavors of red berries, minerals and flowers. Very concentrated and dense but conveys a weightless impression. The palate-saturating finish offers spectacular rising perfume. A wine from very stony soil: I'm sure I would have picked it blind as coming from Chambolle-Musigny." —Stephen Tanzer
