From 50 year old vines in Bons Batons below Chambolle-Musigny. Virgile Lignier has fully hit his stride, with stellar wines over the last several vintages. He farms organically and biodynamically in Morey-Saint-Denis, working with ambient yeasts and whole-cluster fermentation when it helps, continuing the traditional family practices; the domaine's wines have long been championed by its importer, the late Becky Wasserman. This back-vintage 2016 Bourgogne Rouge offers a mature, affordable taste of his touch from a strong Burgundy year, with prices on his wines expected to climb. Grab it while you can.

"The 2016 Bourgogne Pinot Noir, which is 50% whole bunch, has a light blackberry and briary-scented bouquet. The palate is sharp on the entry, slightly bitter with a supple, rounded finish." —Neal Martin

More about Domaine Lignier-Michelot

Virgile Lignier-Michelot's eight-hectare parcel in Morey-Saint-Denis sits on some of Burgundy's most expressive terroir. Pinot Noir from premier and grand cru sites that taste like soil and time compressed into a glass. Becky Wasserman's selections bring these to America, where they're recognized as serious reds. Serious reds for serious collectors—no shortcuts, no fashion, just craft that respects the vineyard and the tradition.
