Cros Parantoux is Burgundy's most legendary Premier Cru—a tiny vineyard made famous by Henri Jayer, who cleared it of scrub in the 1950s and proceeded to make some of the most celebrated wines in history. Méo-Camuzet inherited Jayer's parcels after his retirement, and today Jean-Nicolas Méo continues the legacy with wines that justify the vineyard's near-mythic status. The 2023 is intense and concentrated, with dark fruit, smoke, and an almost savory depth. Extremely limited production from a vineyard that defines what Premier Cru can achieve.

Burghound

"from a .30 ha parcel of 60+ year old vines. A more reserved but every-bit-as-spicy nose grudgingly reveals its array of clove, crushed anise, soy, poached plum, black cherry liqueur and discreet wood influence. The mouthfeel of the medium-bodied flavors is equally gorgeous and even more mineral-driven while concluding in a powerful and beautifully persistent finish that is slightly more refined. This is a big wine that is a bit less austere than usual though it's clearly expressly built-to-age so if you're lucky enough to find a few bottles, they're also going to need extended keeping." —Allen Meadows

"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru—which was picked early in the morning on September 9, the same day as the Richebourg—is a little reticent on the nose at first and more tertiary than the 2022 was last year. Perhaps it has yet to find its voice. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and an unerring sense of symmetry, though it does not possess the intensity or ineffable complexity of Cros Parantoux's very best vintages. As such, I suspect it will be a little earlier drinking. 13.37% abv." —Neal Martin

"The 2023 Cros Parantoux from Méo amply demonstrates why this site is so highly regarded. Boasting dense, ripe blackberry fruit aromas with notes of rose petal, liquorice, and earth, there is great complexity already on the nose. The texture demonstrates, however, that this will only expand with time. There is an impressive concentration on the palate – the wine feels tightly wound and tannic, yet it seems to deliver a silky caress at the same time. 'Not far behind the Richebourg,' in the words of Jean-Nicolas Méo."
