The entry point to Morey-Coffinet's range is really declassified Chassagne: the fruit comes from 0.96 hectares inside the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet, split between the Santenay end and the Puligny end of the village. Those two halves give the wine its shape, deep compact clay on the Santenay side for flesh, finer soil with roughly 20% limestone on the Puligny side for cut. Thibault Morey farms the whole nine-hectare estate organically (Ecocert since 2018, biodynamic practice since 2015) and treats this like the crus, just with a lighter hand: ten months in 228- and 350-litre barrels, only a quarter of them new, bottled unfiltered. 2024 gave the Cote de Beaune a demanding, rainy season saved by a sunny August and a dry September, and the whites came in fresh, citrusy and moderate in alcohol. Serious white Burgundy at the bottom of the ladder, and the easiest way into this house.
