Chassagne is famous for white wine, which is exactly why its reds are worth your attention. Thibault Morey blends two parcels here — Chaumes, planted in 1971, and a younger block of pinot fin in Chambres — both on shallow, compact clay that keeps the wine light on its feet. Farming is certified organic and worked biodynamically, with horses plowing the top parcels since 2021, and the wine spends 12 months in 228-liter barrels, 40% new, before being bottled unfiltered. 2024 was a tiny, hard-won crop in Burgundy, but it produced exactly the kind of cool, high-toned Pinot Noir this bottling is built for: floral, red-fruited and finely tannic rather than broad. Drink it over the next five years, with a slight chill if the weather calls for it.

"This year, the 2024 Chassagne-Montrachet Village (Rouge) has been produced, a blend of Les Chambres and Les Chaumes, which are usually bottled separately. It has a light bouquet with brambly red fruit, blackberry and a touch of sea spray. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, moderate depth but quite austere on the finish.
