Sébastien Odoul makes Burgundy that punches well above its village address, working with a minimally-interventionist hand that lets the fruit sing. This is his Nuits-Saint-Georges from Les Argillats, a lieu-dit on the northern edge of the appellation toward Vosne, where clay-limestone soils give a Pinot Noir that's structured but charming. The 2022 vintage was warm, generous and ripe, so expect a red with real flesh on it alongside the savory Nuits backbone. From a tiny domaine that flies under the radar, it rewards a few years in the cellar but is welcoming young too. Smart, honest Côte de Nuits from a name worth knowing.

"The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Argillats offers a mélange of red and black fruit on the nose and a hint of licorice loitering in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a ripe, quite candied entry, but a nagging green note feels slightly jarring towards the finish.
