Poulsard is one of Jura’s most distinctive grapes—pale in color but packed with personality—and Domaine Rolet’s 2023 Vieilles Vignes bottling shows it off beautifully. Made from older vines grown on marl-rich soils in Arbois, this is a light, earthy red with texture, energy, and a streak of wildness that makes it incredibly fun to drink.
In the glass, it’s almost translucent ruby, with aromas of wild strawberry, red currant, white pepper, and autumn leaves. On the palate, it’s juicy and brisk, with light tannins, bright acidity, and a subtle, savory edge that keeps things interesting from start to finish.
Rolet is one of the Jura’s classic producers, and while their style leans more polished than funky, this Poulsard still has that lifted, natural charm that makes Jura reds so addictive. Serve it with a chill and watch it disappear.
