Burghound

"From 3 different parcels that total 1.85 ha. An airy, cool and restrained nose exhibits ample amounts of spice nuances on the overtly floral-suffused red berry, game and earth wisps. The gorgeously textured, super-sleek and intensely mineral-driven broad-shouldered but refined flavors that conclude in a youthfully austere, compact and impeccably well-balanced finale. This is terrific as there is an exquisite acid/fruit/tannins balance."

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Chambertin Grand Cru contains around 80% whole cluster this year. It is more open on the nose than the Chapelle-Chambertin with perfumed brambly red berry fruit, wild hedgerow and crushed stone scents. Despite the slight reduction, the intensity comes through. The palate is medium-bodied with pliant tannins and gentle grip. It's quite saline toward the finish with a hint of pain d'épices on the aftertaste. This is very promising."

Robert Parker

"Notes of orange zest, plums, dark berries and spices introduce the 2023 Chambertin Grand Cru, followed by a medium to full-bodied, dense and layered palate. It's the most muscular, structured wine in the range, though that impression was likely amplified by a touch of youthful reduction when I tasted it. The Trapet family has produced an attractive set 2023s. As readers will remember, there have been a host of changes at this address in recent years: in 2020, fully seven hectares of the domaine's holdings were converted both to échalas and to higher trellising stakes and wires, depending on the steepness of the slope. Since then, changes have been rolled out in other parcels too. Given the extent of Trapet's holdings in prime climats, that means that the walk from Morey-Saint-Denis to Gevrey-Chambertin suddenly looks rather different. In the cuverie, winemaking continues to be classical, with important percentages of whole clusters, followed by élevage in ever diminishing percentages of new oak, with foudres joining barrels in the cellar."

Decanter

"The superb concentration of the Trapet Chambertin in 2023 is a marvel, bringing the wine a profuse perfume of mulberry, bramble, mint and spice. The texture is tannic and tightly wound – this is a wine that requires a wait. Surely, however, there will be a recompense, since this is monumental. Pierre and Louis Trapet manage the effects of global warming by training the vines on stakes and not trimming the shoots, to which they attribute 0.10 less pH, and by the use of whole-cluster ferments, which lowers alcohol by 0.5%."
