Cult grower Champagne from Ambonnay. Founded 1930 by Francis Egly; current Francis Egly (4th generation) took over in the 1980s. 21 hectares total, 10 hectares across Grand Cru villages: Ambonnay, Bouzy (0.3 ha), Verzenay (1.7 ha). This millésime: 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. Complete fermentation in wood with malolactic deliberately blocked. Minimum 48 months on fine lees. Practices organic and biodynamic viticulture but has not pursued formal certification.

Champagne

But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs.
