A half bottle of benchmark Oregon Pinot Noir, which is exactly what you want on a Tuesday or on a table where one person is drinking red. The wine is a blend across all six of Elk Cove's estate vineyards, from the original Winery Estate site to Mount Richmond, Five Mountain, Clay Court, Goodrich and Windhill, touching all three of the Willamette Valley's major soil types and both Pommard and Dijon plant material. Pat and Joe Campbell founded the estate in 1974, and their son Adam has made the wines since 1995. Every block ferments separately in small temperature-controlled steel tanks with hand punch-downs twice a day, then spends ten months in French oak before blending. 2023 started cool and turned into a long, warm summer with big day-night temperature swings, and late-season rain let the team wait out extra hang time on the blocks that needed it. Drink it now or over the next four or five years; half bottles evolve a bit faster than full ones.

Robert Parker

91 points

"The 2023 Pinot Noir is blended from all of Elk Cove’s estate vineyards. Matured for 10 months in 20% new oak, is has expressive scents of red and black cherries, holiday spice, mushrooms and damp earth. The medium-bodied palate features concentrated, earthy flavors. It’s structured by silky tannins and bright acidity and has a long, spicy finish. 15,733 cases produced." —Erin Brooks

Wine Spectator

92 points

"A sleek and vibrant red, offering medium-bodied flavors of cherry and cranberry that take on green tea and forest floor accents as this builds toward zesty tannins."

Wine Enthusiast

92 points

"An aromatic mix of briar fruit matches up with tangerine and hyacinth aromas. The wine’s flavors are tart and bright, with rose hips, lemon and not-quite-ripe blackberries battling it out. Immense tannins are matched by laser beam-like acidity. Great value here."
