The hardest part of a Negroni is caring enough to build one. Solved. Forthave assembles this bottled version at their Brooklyn distillery from their own botanical spirits, then puts it in a 375ml bottle, which is enough for a few good nights without feeling like a commitment. This is a real Negroni, bitter and bracing and bright with orange peel, not a sweetened shortcut pretending to be one. Being pre-mixed, it has also had time to marry in the bottle, which is a courtesy your rushed home version never receives. Keep it in the fridge or the freezer, pour it over one big rock, twist an orange peel over the top. That is the entire recipe.

Forthave Spirits, named for a fifteenth-century botanist and his plague-combating elixir, started in Brooklyn in 2016 when painter Aaron Fox and writer Daniel de la Nuez decided to explore how their favorite botanical liqueurs were made.
