Cheverny doesn't often shout for attention—and neither does François Cazin. His wines, like the region, are modest on the surface but full of quiet character. The 2023 Cheverny Blanc is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay, grown on sandy clay over limestone in the eastern Loire. It’s bright, breezy, and supremely drinkable.

You get the citrusy drive of Sauvignon without the sharp edges, thanks to Chardonnay's softening touch. The balance is effortless—light-bodied, gently textured, and clean on the finish, with subtle herbal notes and a dusting of minerality. No oak, no gimmicks, just a crisp white that slips easily into any moment.

It’s the kind of wine that doesn’t need a pairing but makes everything taste better—picnics, shellfish, goat cheese, Tuesday night takeout. For fans of Sauvignon Blanc who want something a little more relaxed—or for anyone who loves French whites with quiet depth—Cazin’s Cheverny is a perennial go-to.

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

80% Sauvignon Blanc/20% Chardonnay. Though Cazin's quiet rock-stardom stems from his Cour-Cheverny wines from the more obscure Romorantin grape, it was his Cheverny Blanc--by law a Sauvignon/Chardonnay blend-- which led importer Joe Dressner to François's wines in the first place at a Loire wine fair twenty five years ago. He grows Sauvignon Rose, a sub-variety of Sauvignon Blanc, and Chardonnay, some vines of which are up to forty years old, on clay-limestone soils. The organically farmed grapes are hand-harvested, co-fermented with natural yeasts in tank, aged in tank and neutral oak for a year, and bottled by gravity and with no filtration. Le Petit Chambord, which is on every Cazin label, is the historical name of the family property.
