A Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay blend, grown on clay, limestone and silica just south of the Loire — a white that drinks like Sancerre's more relaxed, more generous cousin, and one of the great everyday values of the region. Cheverny is one of the Loire's youngest appellations, created in 1993, though vines have been worked in this stretch bordering the Sologne marshes since the 6th century; appellation law requires a blend here, which is what gives the wine its particular shape — Sauvignon's snap rounded out by Chardonnay's texture. François Cazin is the reference point: old vines, yields well below the regional average, and a house practice since 1997 of bottling unfiltered, by gravity. His wines have repeatedly been named the top pick of the vintage at the Loire wine show in Angers, and it was this cuvée, not the more famous Cour-Cheverny, that first got him noticed by his American importer. As for 2025, the Cazins simply titled their harvest report "A Nice Year" — no April frost, a dry spring, heat from August 10th that accelerated ripening, and picking underway September 1st with fruit they called perfectly ripe and well balanced, without too much sugar. The "Le Petit Chambord" on the label, by the way, is the historical name of the family property.

Joe Dressner found François Cazin at the Loire wine show in the early '90s and knew immediately he'd found something special. Nearly 30 years later, still working together. His Cheverny blend (70% Sauvignon Blanc, 30% Chardonnay) and his bottling of the rare local grape Romorantin are exactly what Loire tastes like when you get it right.

Goat cheese — Selles-sur-Cher or Valençay above all — plus oysters on the half shell, sole meunière, chicken in tarragon cream, asparagus with vinaigrette, or a plate of rillettes and cornichons.

Tasting Profile

Fresh and floral on the nose, with orchard-apple fruit and citrus. Light to medium bodied with a slightly appley texture, crisp acidity and clean, precise flavors. Dry, sleek, and finishes clean rather than long.
