Romorantin is one of the Loire’s most obscure grapes, but in the hands of François Cazin, it becomes something unforgettable. Cuvée Renaissance comes from old vines in Cour-Cheverny and is made in a richer style—often with a touch of residual sugar and bottle age to let the wine’s natural texture and depth shine. The 2022 vintage shows incredible balance between ripe fruit, savory undertones, and firm, age-worthy structure.

Yellow apple, quince, and orange peel lead, layered with beeswax, chamomile, and a hint of earthy spice. There’s a quiet intensity here—broad and waxy on the palate, but reined in by firm acidity and a mineral finish that hums with tension. Pair it with roast poultry, mushroom dishes, or aged cheeses. This is a rare Loire white with soul, grip, and a voice all its own.

What importer Bowler Wine has to say about this wine...

100% Romorantin. Cazin's Cour-Cheverny Cuvée Renaissance is made only in certain vintages, when the conditions are right for healthy fruit to be harvested quite late, from the estate's oldest vines (40 to 90 years). The bunches are hand-harvested and pressed directly; the must is fermented in stainless steel tank with native yeasts; the wine does not go through malolactic fermentation. The wine is aged on its lees in used 300-liter barrels; it is bottled by gravity without filtration a year after the harvest. There is always some residual sugar, varying with the vintage, balanced beautifully with Romorantin's naturally high acidity. "Le Petit Chambord" (on every Cazin label) is the historical name of the family property.
