Monvigliero is one of Barolo's most special sites, the most prestigious cru in Verduno and a source of pure, perfumed Nebbiolo, and Alessandria is one of its two great references alongside Burlotto. 2010 was a benchmark classic vintage, structured and built for the long haul, and after well over a decade this bottle is just opening its mature window. The wine is all clarity and poise, traditional and transparent to its hillside. Not quite the monument Burlotto's Monvigliero is, but a must-have for serious collectors. Decant and give it air.

Antonio Galloni

"Crushed flowers, spices, orange peel, dried red cherries and mint are all laced together in the 2010 Barolo Monvigliero. Today, the 2010 is quite shut down, even if plenty of its distinctive floral and savory notes emerge over time. Firm tannins keep the fruit from showing all of its sweetness, but the 2010 is nevertheless quite beautiful, even at this early stage." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"The 2010 Barolo Monvigliero shows a pretty degree of color salutation with brilliant garnet and ruby highlights. The bouquet is broad and wide-sweeping with a healthy succession of red berry, sweet almond, stone fruit, medicinal herb and crushed mineral. Fruit thrives from 220 to 280 meters above sea level with full southern exposures facing La Morra. They own 1.5 hectares of the 20-hectare single vineyard. An important cru, Monvigliero is fifth most identified vineyard designate in Barolo after Cannubi, Bussia, Brunate and Rocche dell’Annunziata. Fratelli Alessandria keeps its Barolo in oak casks for three years, instead of two. The wine shows light spice notes with distant touches of dark fruit. The tannins are silky and long. The wine is amazing expressive now, but promises great aging potential. Drink: 2017-2033." —Monica Larner

"Scents of woodland berry, rose petal, grilled herb, anisette and a balsamic note emerge on this firmly structured wine. On the robust palate, white pepper, licorice, sage and a hint of toast weave through the black cherry core. You’ll also detect the warmth of alcohol on the close. Drink 2018–2028." —Kerin O'Keefe
