Bricco delle Viole is Vajra's crown jewel, from the highest vineyard in the comune of Barolo, climbing to 480 meters on the cool ridge above Vergne. The altitude is the whole story here: it gives the wine soaring perfume, freshness and serious aging structure. The 2013 was a classic, firmly structured Barolo vintage that rewards patience. At a decade-plus it is opening into its mature stride but still has a long life ahead; decant generously if you are drinking it now.

More about G.D. Vajra

G.D. Vajra traces back to 1968, when Aldo Vajra inherited his grandparents' farm in Vergne, the highest village in Barolo. He was a pioneer of organic viticulture in Piedmont—certified in 1971, decades before it became fashionable. His Langhe Nebbiolo showcases the grape at its most approachable, fermented naturally, aged in neutral oak.
