Very open and inviting with plenty of fresh yellow fruit, sea breeze, and hints of dried flowers, toasted nuts, beeswax, caramel, and turmeric that suggest a touch of bottle age. Good viscosity and structure, with a steely core of acidity that keeps the slightly elevated alcohol level perfectly in balance, like a great Nebbiolo.
We checked back in on this wine three days later and were delighted to find fennel, mint, scrubby steel, chamomile, sarsaparilla, and ginger, plus a lot more salty, stony notes. This will get better but is already great to drink.
Voerzio Martini is a young Barolo estate that quickly recognized the quality potential of Timorasso from Colli Tortonesi. These vines were planted in 1990, likely responsible for the added complexity and poise of the wine.
