Serradenari is the hill Giulia Negri grew up on and the name of her estate, and it happens to sit among the highest vineyard ground in all of Barolo. Altitude does specific things to Nebbiolo: it slows ripening, holds acidity, and trades some of the appellation's famous muscle for perfume and precision. This is the estate's flagship and it drinks like it, with rose petal and red cherry up front, wild herbs and crushed stone underneath, and tannins that are firm and finely woven rather than blunt. 2016 was a landmark vintage in Piedmont, balanced and complete, and a decade in, this is finally beginning to unfurl. Give it a long decant now, or leave it alone another five to ten years.
