Antonio Galloni

96 points

"The 2008 Barolo Monprivato (magnum) remains a wine of total finesse. Deeply pitched aromatics give the 2008 its decidedly exotic flair. Blood orange, mint, hard candy and bright red-toned fruit all play in that same register, showing striking inner sweetness and tons of sheer allure. The 2008 has always been captivating. It is all that and more on this evening." —Antonio Galloni

Jancis Robinson

"Lovely stuff already mature enough to provide sweet autumnal pleasure yet so hauntingly Barolo. Leaf mould and nuance. Yes please. Drink 2017-2035." —Jancis Robinson MW

Wine Spectator

95 points

"Detailed and fragrant, offering floral, strawberry, cherry, licorice and spice flavors, this is elegant and underlined by a strong mineral streak. Well-proportioned, picking up intensity and complexity on the long, savory finish. Extremely fresh and classy."

More about Giuseppe Mascarello

Giuseppe Mascarello's origins trace to 1881 in Monforte d'Alba, now representing over 130 years of Barolo tradition. Mauro Mascarello and his son Giuseppe avoid new French oak entirely, aging in decades-old Slavonian oak botti purchased in the 1950s. These are classically-made Barolos—Monprivato is the crown jewel—that taste like the region's soul distilled into a bottle.
