Giuseppe Rinaldi makes some of the world's most coveted, hardest-to-find Barolo, traditional wines of remarkable depth and terroir from one of the legendary names of the Langhe. Brunate-Le Coste is the estate's historic blend of two great crus, a wine that wine people chase for years. The 2001 came from a celebrated, classically structured Barolo vintage now considered a benchmark. This is a genuine library bottle: at over two decades it should be in a fully mature, secondary phase, so handle it gently, decant for sediment and serve it with reverence. In a region obsessed with single-vineyard bottlings, Rinaldi remains a traditionalist's touchstone. Beppe Rinaldi died in 2018, and his daughters Marta and Carlotta now run the estate without changing its soul: natural-yeast fermentations in old wooden vats and long aging in large old botti. Tre Tine blends several Barolo sites in the old way, while Brunate shows off one of the appellation's great crus. Powerful, hauntingly perfumed Barolo built for time.
