Mount Edelstone is one of Australia’s oldest single-vineyard Shiraz sites—over a century of vines teaching the ground what they want to say. Named for the “gemstones” (opals) once found in these Eden Valley soils, the 2019 speaks in silken, savory tones: black pepper, sage, violet, and a graphite minerality that feels like stone underfoot. This is Syrah as meditation rather than muscle—meaty and complex enough to cellar until 2049, yet already singing. The Henschke touch: patience in the glass.

Ripe but plentiful, mouth-coating tannins and a beam of redcurrant acidity lean into and lock down the fruit, making for a youthfully tight, brooding finish. Great ageing potential."
