Hermann Ludes makes Riesling like it’s 1985—and we mean that in the best possible way. Low alcohol, crackling acidity, and barely-there sweetness give his wines a throwback feel, and in a site like Thornicher Ritsch, the results are electric.

This Kabinett comes from terraced parcels in one of the Mosel’s steepest, most slate-heavy vineyards. The 2023 vintage keeps it ultra-bright and nervy: green apple, lime zest, wild herbs, and a smoky mineral edge that hums through the finish. There’s a whisper of residual sugar, but the acidity is so high it practically vanishes.

If you’re into Mosel Riesling that’s feather-light, shockingly focused, and totally refreshing, this one’s a no-brainer. Chill it down and let it rip—solo or with something spicy.

More about Hermann Ludes

Julian Ludes took over his uncle Hermann's winery in the Mosel in 2020 and immediately started pushing harder into raw, reductive Riesling. Twelve hectares of steep vineyards including the legendary Ritsch site (with old ungrafted vines) ferment wild, stay in barrel as long as they need, and never get the lab-coat treatment. This is minimal-intervention Mosel made modern.
